Epitaph signs YOUTH GROUP!
09:29pm 01/03/2005
Epitaph just signed one of the most amazing band's I've heard in a long time..YOUTH GROUP! "Youth Group are at the forefront of an exciting new era in Australian alternative music. They have the pop of The Posies, the articulate desire of The Red House Painters and Death Cab for Cutie, the rock of The Pixies, and the angst of Bright Eyes." You can hear some tracks off the upcoming release 'Skeleton Jar' and a really cool video at www.youthgroupmusic.com

What do you guys think? I can't wait to hear more…I guess these guys have been around since '98! They are very refreshing!

I'm from Middleport which is about 50 minutes from Buffalo (and everything else for that matter) but for the most part I'm familiar with the area. I would very much like to know about shows or other concerts coming to the wester new york, so since there aren't any rules or applications posted on the user info. I thought I would ask to join here.

North By Northeast! Woo-hoo!

Hey, there! I'm just a Vancouverite passing though. Any of you going to the NXNE music festival in Toronto? It will be excellent. I can't go this year, which sucks balls, so instead I figured I'd spread the love about bands I've seen and lurve who are going to be playing. Here's the info:

Sekiden @ the B-Side
Thursday, June 10th, 1am

Oh. My. Gawd. Sekiden is the cutest. They're Ausie 80s punk/synth-pop, a brother-sister-boyfriend team. They jump around, climb all over the drumset, amps and anything that will hold their weight, and they've got the most enthusiastic drummer in the known universe. Their songs are deadly catchy, and you will have them stuck in your head for weeks. Trust me. Plus, they put on one of the best live shows I've seen in a really, really long time. Listen here, especially to "1+1=Heartache".

The Front @ Kathedral
Friday, June 11th, 11pm

There's something about seeing hip-hop with a live band. I'm not a huge contemporary hip-hop listener, but I'm shameless music snob enough to know good music when I hear it. I saw these guys once upon a time at a Michael Franti concert, and I was utterly blown away by their sheer energy and excellent musicianship. Can't find their website, but you can hear them streaming here.

Girl Nobody @ Reverb (Socan Showcase)
Thursday, June 10th, 11pm

This imoody, hypnotic, Bjork-ish electro-pop band is fronted by possibly the most beautiful woman in the world. At the very least, the best dressed. And she puts on a Show with a capital S. Check out music and pretty videos at their website.

Lazarazu @ Nia@C'est What
Friday, June 11th, 1am

Remember Grapes of Wrath? Well, Kevin Kane's in a new band! I haven't seen them live yet, but I hear they're a "revitalized Cure". I'm a sucker for male/female vocals, and I've really liked what I've heard. They're up here for listening.

Leeroy Stagger @ Rivoli (One Night Stand Showcase)
Friday, June 11th, 12am

I just love this guy! He's punk meets alt. country meets rock 'n' roll. He toured with the Pixies and Hot Hot Heat for a while; you may have seen him there. Fabulous songwriter. Listen here (and weep that he's only got one song up).

Public service complete.
