Sekiden @ the B-Side
Thursday, June 10th, 1am
Oh. My. Gawd. Sekiden is the cutest. They're Ausie 80s punk/synth-pop, a brother-sister-boyfriend team. They jump around, climb all over the drumset, amps and anything that will hold their weight, and they've got the most enthusiastic drummer in the known universe. Their songs are deadly catchy, and you will have them stuck in your head for weeks. Trust me. Plus, they put on one of the best live shows I've seen in a really, really long time. Listen here, especially to "1+1=Heartache".

There's something about seeing hip-hop with a live band. I'm not a huge contemporary hip-hop listener, but I'm shameless music snob enough to know good music when I hear it. I saw these guys once upon a time at a Michael Franti concert, and I was utterly blown away by their sheer energy and excellent musicianship. Can't find their website, but you can hear them streaming here.
Girl Nobody @ Reverb (Socan Showcase)
Thursday, June 10th, 11pm
This imoody, hypnotic, Bjork-ish electro-pop band is fronted by possibly the most beautiful woman in the world. At the very least, the best dressed. And she puts on a Show with a capital S. Check out music and pretty videos at their website.
Lazarazu @ Nia@C'est What

Remember Grapes of Wrath? Well, Kevin Kane's in a new band! I haven't seen them live yet, but I hear they're a "revitalized Cure". I'm a sucker for male/female vocals, and I've really liked what I've heard. They're up here for listening.
Leeroy Stagger @ Rivoli (One Night Stand Showcase)
Friday, June 11th, 12am
I just love this guy! He's punk meets alt. country meets rock 'n' roll. He toured with the Pixies and Hot Hot Heat for a while; you may have seen him there. Fabulous songwriter. Listen here (and weep that he's only got one song up).
Public service complete.
